An early camera with fixed focus lens & simple one speed shutter (c. 1/30th sec)
1930’s Brownie cameras - made by Kodak. Clearly these cameras are of the ‘box’ construction - including the main components of their simple system. The Lens > The shutter > The box > The film
The simple shutter of the early box cameras moved an oval hole across the lens and so exposed the film for about 1/30th of a sec. Notice too that the box itself is made of wood and covered in leather.
A glance at the mechanical camera of the 1980-90’s shows that the same basic arrangement applies but there are simply more, and more sophisticated systems for controlling the image making and also to allow us to see exactly what will be taken - by contriving to show us a view through the lens itself.
