From “Lucky Strike” cigarette packs to Greyhound buses … it has been said that Raymond Loewy shaped America. Neither the Lucky Strike pack nor
the Shell emblem shown here were his original designs but his reshaping
of them has not reduced his association with them.
Loewy was an early practitioner in the field of professional product
design and by early in 1929 had his design studios operating in the United States. He produced design for Studebaker cars, Pennsylvania Railroad (the
T1 locomotive) and has continued into the ‘space age’ with his design for the interior of Skylab produced for NASA.
