Trevor Baylis has a reputation for ‘inventing’ and has experimented for many years with ideas for products and devices in his workshop near London. Inspiration for the ‘Clockwork Radio’ came from hearing a report on the subject of AIDS in Africa and the problems resulting from the lack of information about the problem.  Radio broadcasting was not going to get to listeners who perhaps couldn’t afford batteries for potable radios and for those living without easy
access to mains electricity supplies.  The clockwork radio was the result of much hard work and experimentation but would not have resulted in the product we now know had reports about his ideas not reached those capable of giving financial support to the project.  South African Liberty Life Group made the project a reality and Baygen commenced producing the Baygen radio in South Africa during 1994. The original larger design has continued in production but has been extended with the addition of the transparent version made for the western market from 1997.

Trevor Baylis is a great proponent of the lone designer striving to find ideas and develop and improve products.  His engineering and inventive skills have led him to develop products that aid those with  limitations in their dextral abilities.  He has also worked to develop a mine-detector driven by clockwork energy source. So many of modern battlegrounds  – fields and pathways in war-damaged countries – remain dangerous through remaining mines – and with the limited availability of portable power sources in these regions the clockwork mine detector makes it more possible to remove the mines remaining.

Having had the experience of creating and marketing his own        designs he has set up an agency to support others who feel in need of support in finding         market for their inventions - He continues to create products supported by his windup energy          technology and has added eco lanterns, torches and combination
products.

                                    ith Baylis’s name.
